Frequently Asked Questions

OMT is generally gentle. While some treatments may be uncomfortable, treatment should not be excessively painful. Depending on your condition and the techniques being used, you may experience mild discomfort when tight or restricted tissues are treated, but treatment is usually not excessively painful. Dr. Burns adjusts each session to your comfort level and treatment goals.

Both osteopathic manual therapy and chiropractic care use hands-on techniques to improve movement and reduce pain, but they differ in their overall approach.

OMT is performed by a physician (Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine) and is integrated into a comprehensive medical evaluation. Treatment may include gentle techniques that address muscles, fascia, joints, connective tissues, and other body systems, not just the spine and/or alignment. Dr. Burns tailors each treatment to your individual needs and overall health.

Some people improve after one treatment, while others may need additional treatment. Our goal is to support your body’s ability to heal rather than rely on repeated treatments. If an issue continues to recur, we may need to reassess and take a different approach. Dr. Burns will discuss recommendations based on your individual goals and progress.

Yes. OMT is often used alongside other therapies as part of a comprehensive treatment plan. Depending on your condition, Dr. Burns may recommend combining OMT with exercise, physical therapy, regenerative medicine, lifestyle changes, or other treatments to support the best possible outcome.

OMT may be helpful for a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions involving pain, restricted movement, and tissue dysfunction. During your evaluation, Dr. Burns will determine whether OMT is appropriate for your specific condition and whether additional treatments should be part of your care plan.

Yes. If you use a wheelchair, you’re welcome to receive treatment in your chair if that’s most comfortable. Otherwise, treatment typically takes place on the treatment table.

Payment is collected after your appointment. A 5% processing fee applies to credit card payments; check payments are also accepted.
